Browser Battle Royale: Play Free Solo, Duo or Squad
A browser battle royale is a last-one-standing shooter that starts in a normal browser tab: no download, no launcher, no account. ZeroFront, our own free FPS, has one built in. You drop in with one life and a pistol, loot crates for better guns, and try to outlast everyone else as a shrinking zone pushes the fight together. You can play it solo, in a duo or in a squad of up to four. Open the game and pick Battle Royale to see it for yourself.
This guide covers how a ZeroFront match works, what the zone does, what the loot crates hold, and how to play each team size. Everything here comes from the live game and its pages. We are the ZeroFront Team, so treat this as a first-party guide, not a neutral review. If you want to see how the other modes compare, our FPS game modes explainer covers them all.
How does a browser battle royale match work?
Every match follows the same loop. You start with a pistol and a single life. There is no respawn: when you die, you are out. The last player (or the last duo or squad) standing wins.
- Pick Battle Royale from the mode list and choose Solo, Duo or Squad.
- Drop in and head for loot. Rifles, SMGs, shotguns, marksman rifles, sniper rifles and machine guns all appear in crates, and an RPG turns up occasionally.
- Pick up med kits when you are hurt. Each one heals 50.
- Keep an eye on the minimap. It shows areas, the zone and your squad, and a dashed circle marks where the next zone will be.
- Stay inside the circle. You lose health every second outside it, and the damage grows in each later phase.
- Finish the last fight. Whoever holds the final circle wins.
You can carry two long guns and a pistol. If you walk onto a third gun, it swaps with the one in your hands. When a player falls, their guns drop where they died, so a won fight is also a loot opportunity.
Solo, Duo or Squad: which team size should you play?
All three versions share the same rules. What changes is who is on your side.
| Version | Who plays together | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Solo | Nobody. Everyone has one life and a pistol. | Last one standing wins. |
| Duo | Two players, paired in the order they join. | You drop in side by side and cannot damage each other. |
| Squad | Up to four players per side. | In an 8-player room, Squad is four against four. Squadmates appear blue and cannot hurt you. |
Solo is the fastest way to learn the loop because every decision is yours. Duo is good when you have one friend and want to trade kills. Squad rewards one player holding a long angle while others push, and the shared minimap helps you stay together.
What does the shrinking zone do?
The zone is what turns a loot hunt into a fight. It holds for a while, then closes in phases.
| Map | Zone phases | Total time |
|---|---|---|
| Ironwood Valley (250 m) | 5 | about 6 minutes |
| Smaller maps | 4 | about 2.5 minutes |
Ironwood Valley is the dedicated 250 m Battle Royale map. It has nine drop areas: Old Town, Millbrook Farm, Rail Yard, Fort Kestrel, Lakeside, Radio Hill, the Quarry, a gas station and a ranger post, joined by roads through the woods. Eight smaller maps are also available when you want a match that finishes in a few minutes.
A practical way to use this: treat the first phase as loot time and every phase after it as movement time. Pick your next position as soon as the dashed circle appears, not when the damage starts.
Browser battle royale tips for your first matches
These tips come from how the rules are built, not from guesswork.
- Land near a drop area, not in the open. On Ironwood Valley there are nine named areas. Drop at one and you are close to crates.
- Upgrade your pistol quickly. You start with only a pistol, so the first crate matters more than any later one.
- Hold two long guns that do different jobs. For example, a shotgun for close rooms and a marksman or sniper rifle for open ground, with your pistol as the backup.
- Heal between fights. A med kit gives 50 health, which is a large share of a health bar.
- Loot the fallen. Dead players drop their guns, so a quick pick-up can save a long search.
- Rotate early. Move toward the next circle before it closes, so you are not running through damage.
- In squads, stay close. The minimap shows your squad, so use it to avoid getting split up.

Controls on keyboard, mouse and touch
On desktop, move with W A S D, aim with the mouse, fire with left click and aim down sights with right click. Shift sprints, Space jumps, C or Ctrl crouches and R reloads. Keys 1 2 3 switch weapons, or use the mouse wheel, and G throws a frag.
On a phone, the left thumb drives a virtual stick (push it to the edge to sprint), the right thumb drags to look, and FIRE and AIM buttons handle shooting. There are buttons for reload, jump, crouch, swapping weapons and frags, and optional gyro aiming can be set in Settings. Where battle royale fits among ZeroFront modes
Battle Royale is one of many ways to play. Rooms hold up to 8 players, and the game also offers Free-for-All, Team Deathmatch, objective modes such as Domination (first to 150) and Hardpoint (first to 120), and round modes such as Search & Destroy. If you like ladders more than survival, try the 15-gun Gun Game instead.
Battle Royale needs other players in the room to be a real contest. If you just want to warm up first, Solo Survival lets you practise aim and movement against AI waves before you queue for a match.
Try it now
Open ZeroFront, choose Battle Royale and drop in. The first match takes only a few minutes, and the loop of loot, heal, rotate and fight becomes clear quickly.
